The race this year was on the middle Saturday of the Menai Strait Regatta to help act as a feeder race for the Welsh IRC National Championships the following week in Pwllheli.
There was very nasty weather in the week before the race, and this impacted on the number of starters arriving at the line.
The low start number came to the line in a building SW wind and the starts were uneventful and the fleet was off.
A boat retired into the dock at Caernarfon, and later one retired into Holyhead. The wind continued to rise.
The largest boat in the fleet Predator called to the Race office to say they had recorded 50kts across the deck in Red Wharf Bay, and were retiring rather than face the beat up the Menai Strait.
Bada Bing despite suffering damage completed the course to take the IRC Race, and Sea Breeze showed considerable seamanship to take the PY side of the race to win this class.
The date of the 2017 race is being considered and will be advised shortly.
